LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- While most eyes were on the Aquinas basketball team Saturday, another team had a successful weekend.
The Aquinas robotics team took first at a regional competition and is headed to nationals in St. Louis next month.
The robot's name is Bertha and students had build and program her to climb to the first level of a pyramid and throw Frisbees.
"It's really nerve-wracking. It's intense. Each game is a close match and it's basically a mind game," said sophomore Alexis Puyleart. "You have to figure out how to out smart you opponent and basically how you can over come what they can do."
The team is not allowed to make any changes to Bertha between now and the national competition, but they will be organizing their tools and planning for troubleshooting during the competition.
