La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) La Crosse Mayoral Candidate Doug Farmer says he has an idea to improve neighborhood safety in the city.
On Friday he unveiled Phase Two of his plan to preserve, rehabilitate and protect La Crosse's neighborhoods.
His idea is to set up a special 3-1-1- phone line for people to report what he calls quality of life crimes such as excessive noise, excessive garbage and abandoned vehicles.
Farmer says the key is to enforce all ordinances, no matter how small. "The bigger reason is that no person really feels comfortable calling 911 with a quality of life crime. It doesn't rise to that level. 311 is an invitation to the citizens of La Crosse to call in those crimes."
The 3-1-1 system would not replace the 9-1-1- emergency system and 911 calls would have priority. Farmer and Tim Kabat face off in the April second election.
