Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Future students at UW-La Crosse and Western Technical will have a new housing option.

The City Council has okayed a new five story apartment complex near downtown, on the intersection of State and 10th Street in La Crosse.

The building is designed to be five stories tall, with 40 apartments and 120 bedrooms, plus commercial space.

It's currently a residential area, but will require demolishing mostly rental property to make room for the building.

The project is funded by the Pointe West Investments company.

The goal is to provide a quality residential and commercial center in the heart of downtown La Crosse.

The roughly $10 million project is expected to begin in June.

It should open in June of 2014.
