LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The winter weather that's moved through the area has caused a number of school districts to let students go a bit early today.
The majority of the districts are in rural areas in northeast Iowa, southeastern Minnesota, and western Wisconsin. The largest district to dismiss early is the Winona School District.
Besides letting out early, a number of school related afterschool and evening activities are also being postponed.
While the snow is expected to end by early afternoon, the forecast from WXOW Meteorologist Alex Kirchner calls for blowing and drifting snow in open areas and on top of ridges in southeastern Minnesota and into Wisconsin.
Throughout the region Monday, several minor accidents involving vehicles sliding off roadways are being reported.
A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service is in effect until 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
