SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- The Viterbo V-Hawks will add more local talent for next basketball season. On Tuesday, Sparta senior Schanell Giraud signed her letter of intent to play hoops for coach Bobbi Vandenberg.
By choosing to play for the V-Hawks, Giraud joins the likes of Jenna Engh (Westby) and Whitney Hanson (Cashton) as Coulee Region athletes playing close to home. The MVC's 4th leading scorer this past season with 12.3 points per game, Giraud will try to help the V-Hawks improve upon a lackluster season.
"I just hope that I can really help them out scoring, and hopefully I'll get to play," she said. "I'm just looking forward to working with them and having new teammates, making new friends."
Vandenberg added, "We call them 'Diamonds in the Rough.' [Schanell's] somebody who maybe is not on everybody's radar but was definitely on our radar and had a lot of recommendations from people around the area. So, when we went out to see her play, we were very impressed with her abilities and her potential."
Giraud said she plans to study bio-psychology in addition to playing basketball at Viterbo.
