
MANKATO, Minnesota (WXOW) -- They needed an extra period, but as a two-seed in the D-II NCAA Tournament, Winona State knocked off top-seeded Minnesota State-Mankato to advance to the quarterfinals. The Warriors defeated the Mavericks 76-73 in overtime.
The Warriors shot 52% from the field, getting double-digit performances from five different players. Clayton Vette led WSU with 22 points. Cameron Taylor added 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Winona St. now advances to the tournament's "Elite Eight" on March 28th in Louisville, Kentucky. There they'll play another #1 seed, West Liberty, at 5:30 p.m.
