LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) The La Crosse Airport control tower is on a list of towers set to close April 7.
According to La Crosse Airport Manager Clinton Torp, the tower is one of 8 in Wisconsin and 149 nationwide set to close.
Torp says in a release, "The loss of the La Crosse Airport tower will result in four local controllers losing their jobs. We are unsure at this point what economic impacts the closure will have on the airport and community. . ."
Torp says, ". . . the airport will remain open and airlines will continue to serve the airport in a safe manner as there are alternate safety mechanisms in place. Pilots are trained to operate in uncontrolled environments and we have had uncontrolled airline service at night for many years.
