MILWAUKEE (WXOW) -- Don't let the cooler weather deceive you, Monday is indeed April 1st, which means Opening Day for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The start of the 2013 campaign marks the fourth straight opening day start for Yovani Gallardo. The first of those came, appropriately enough, against Monday's opponent, the Colorado Rockies, back on April 5th of 2010.
Gallardo worked seven innings of that game, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. It resulted in a 5-3 loss.
The Brewers ace hopes for a reversal of fortune on Opening Day 2013 that might set the tone for Milwaukee's season.
"I think yo knows he's the guy," said Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke. "He's been the guy here really for a long time. He's stepped it up. He's taking control of that pitching staff verbally and with what kind of workload he puts on himself. I see a guy that looks like he likes the challenge of what he's doing."
First pitch between the Brewers and Rockies is set for Monday afternoon around 1:10 CST.
