EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (WQOW) - The change in seasons puts bike safety front and center. Eau Claire police say we will now see more bicycle and foot traffic so we should brush up on the rules of the road.
A simple safety reminder is the rule of three: bikes should ride three feet from the curb or three feet from parked cars. While cars need to leave at least three feet when passing a bike.
"Bicyclists need to remember that they are a vehicle on the road and they need to follow all of the traffic laws just as a motor vehicle would do," says Officer Kyle Roder of the Eau Claire Police Department.
Police advise wearing helmets, reflective clothing and making sure your bike is in good working order before heading out this spring.
