La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW)---- The La Crosse County Health Department is encouraging everyone to protect themselves from mosquito and tick exposure as spring and summer continue to approach so do insects.
Mosquitos and ticks are small creatures they can create large problems because they can spread illnesses like lyme disease, West Nile virus and La Crosse encephalitis.
Andy Berg is working with the Health Department and he says people should take this seriously. "It's more prevalent in youth whereas West Nile attacks people 50 and older. Both populations with compromised immune systems. Either they're growing or slowing down."
Experts say wear loose clothing and check your skin when you come indoors. Also wear a repellant with DEET which is effective against both mosquitos and ticks.
