Eau Claire (WQOW) - U.S. Senator Ron Johnson stopped in Eau Claire Friday for a luncheon and presentation about some national issues happening in Washington.
The senator addressed state and national effects of the sequester and what he's been working on with other senators in Washington.
He also answered questions on Wisconsin legislation related to gun background checks and what it could mean for owners.
"What I certainly hear from constituents is Wisconsinites want me to make sure that we're protecting their second amendment rights and I want to do that," says Senator Johnson.
He says more laws will create a speed bump for law abiding people to purchase hand guns and do little to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
Senator Johnson also discussed his stance on international conflict in North Korea.
"I support the administration. They're taking a relatively tough line here, they're showing strength. Showing North Korea that we're going to be serious about this."
The senator also believes the U.S. needs to engage China in this conflict because they are becoming a world leader.
He says they should utilize that leadership role and China's influence over North Korea.
