LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- UW-La Crosse track and field started the outdoor season strong while paying tribute to a life cut tragically short.
UWL hosted the first Ashton May Invitational, remembering the 2010 graduate who became an assistant coach before she was killed in a car crash last September. May's sister Maggie was among those who ran in her honor.
The La Crosse women won the meet with a score of 341. Jena Weigel won the heptathlon that began on Friday. The UWL men took second by just five points to UW-Platteville.
ONALASKA, Wisconsin -- Good news for Hilltopper baseball, they're finally hosting games outside.
Onalaska trailed Eau Claire Memorial 1-0 in the early going, but a strong third inning gave the Hilltoppers a 4-1 lead. Dustin Gordon pitched strong for Onalaska en route to a 6-4 win in game one. They swept the doubleheader with the 8-5 win Saturday afternoon over Memorial.
ONALASKA, Wisconsin -- Onalaska and Luther renewed their cross-town rivalry on the softball diamond with a similar result to last season.
The Lady Knights have had the Hilltoppers number the past few seasons, winning 25-0 last year. They took Saturday's game 15-0 capped off by a Sara Beckendorf strikeout. Mariah Schultz added six K's as the starter.
