ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Playing at the Onalaska Omni Center due to poor conditions at their usual home field, UW-La Crosse softball managed a WIAC-opening split with UW-River Falls.
UWL took the Falcons scoreless to the bottom of the 6th in game one before Mary Kate Pryor broke the stalemate with a base hit to right scoring Emily Sobocinski. River Falls responded with an RBI from Haley Buchanan in the 7th to send the game to extra innings.
It remained 1-1 until the top of the 10th. UWRF loaded the bases for Sarah Bohlen who hit a grand slam home run, giving the falcons a 5-1 lead. They held the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning to pick up the win.
La Crosse, however, responded with a 5-4 win in game two to start the conference season at 1-1. UWL improves to 13-5 overall.
