Pedestrian dies, Lutheran bishop arrested after crash

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- A woman died after she was hit by a drunk driver.

Sun Prairie police say a 52-year-old jogger was struck by a vehicle driven by Bruce Burnside, 59, of Madison. The woman was taken to a Madison hospital where she later died.

It happened at the northbound off ramp of Highway 151 and Windsor Street in Sun Prairie.

Burnside was found in his car near the crash site. He was arrested for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. He's being held in the Dane County jail.

The accident is still under investigation.

A website for South-Central Synod of Wisconsin, an Evangelical Lutheran Church, lists Bruce Burnside as bishop of the organization since 2007.
