La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) Joel Dettwiler is embarking on his third season as head coach of the UW-La Crosse football team.
On Wednesday, he started to get a glimpse of what next season will bring.
The Eagles opened spring practice on campus.
The team will practice 12 times over the next month.
Improvements have come in small increments so far.
But they have come.
This spring the Eagles hope to set the foundation for a big 2013 season.
"The big thing is setting the tempo for the fall and the summer, being excited going into the summer and having good skills. It's a time to showcase the thing you've been working on in the off season from team chemistry and fundamentals. It's a chance for us as coaches to be around them more and building relationships is something that has to be high on our priority list," Dettwiler said.
The Eagles finished last season at 4-6 overall.
