WEST SALEM, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- It's not exactly the chase for the cup, but that doesn't mean the action at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway is any less exciting.
As last years late model champion Todd Korish told News 19 on Saturday afternoon, nobody has a significant advantage on the track, meaning every point counts.
Few know that better than last years runner up, Brent Kirchner. Despite winning two feature races in 2012, the driver from La Crosse came up just shy in the overall standings.
Expect that to fuel him as much this season as the high-octane gas powers his car.
"[I'm looking forward to] just getting back to that competitive edge," said Kirchner. "Just being back in the seat and feeling what its like to feel. Over the winter you kind of lose that a bit. Getting back down here...gets us back in the swing of things and starts feeling like the start of the season again."
Weather permitting, the Speedway goes green flag racing next Saturday night with the aptly named "Frostbuster" Race.
