HOUSTON, Minnesota (WXOW)—The Houston Police Department arrested a Roseau, Minn. couple after police said they left their 7-year-old son, in a wheel chair, in a van outside a bar.
Police arrested Tammy Ahlbeck, 36, and Clayton Ahlbeck, 37, on Saturday.
Each faces two counts of child neglect or endangerment; a Gross Misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of one year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
Police responded to a call, at 11:51 p.m., from two witnesses reporting a child left alone in a van outside a local bar.
According to the complaint, police saw the child alone in the car, sleeping, for ten minutes after responding to the call.
The Ahlbeck's were in the bar when officers arrived.
Tammy Ahlbeck came out of the bar and approached the van and officer.
Police questioned her then brought her husband out of the bar.
Tammy said the child was left alone for just a few minutes.
But, witnesses told police they saw the child alone from 20 minutes to an hour.
Police tested the Ahlbeck's blood alcohol levels; Tammy registered a 0.14 and Clayton registered a 0.276.
According to the complaint, the Ahlbeck's two other children were in the bar with them.
The parents have been released on $3,000 dollar cash bond. They are due back in court on May 6.
Houston County Attorney's Office said the Department of Human and Social Services in Houston and Roseau Counties are investigating. The children were released to a family member or friend on Saturday night.
