Former WI Assembly speaker home safe after Boston blast

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- A former speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly ran in the Boston Marathon Monday.

49-year-old John Gard of Green Bay is back home safe in Wisconsin.

He says he finished the marathon well ahead of the explosions at the finish line.

He says, "All you saw was chaos... You could tell something unusual was happening."

Gard says the Boston Marathon "is probably one of the most genuinely innocent events in America" but "will never be the same" after the deadly blast.
