Luther softball living up to the hype

Onalaska, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  Onalaska Luther softball is undergoing a bit of a youth movement.

But so far so good for the Lady Knights, who improved to 7-0 Tuesday by beating De Soto, a team that made it to the state tournament last year.

Luther, along with Arcadia, is one of the favorites to contend for the Coulee Conference again this season.

The Knights are coming off back to back 20-win seasons.

But with just one senior on the roster they'll need their younger players to continue to make an impact.

"This team is the youngest team we've had in a long time. We're starting three freshmen and two sophomores and Mariah is the only senior. We got a lot of youth and a lot of inexperience which is showing up in our play. But I love these kids. They're working hard. They're great athletes. They play hard together and they have a lot of fun," said head coach Mark Ross.

"Both on and off the field, we're always talking to each other during the day. On the field we practice and just go hard and off the field we just have fun," said senior pitcher Mariah Schultz.

Luther is ranked 2nd in the state in division 3 by Fast Pitch Chronicle.

Arcadia is 4th.
