FENNIMORE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A man seen wandering the halls of a Fennimore, Wis. school and whom officials called "suspicious" is now in custody. In a release Friday afternoon, Fennimore police officer Chris French said the man has been identified as Mark Verhagen of Mukwonago, Wis. He is currently in the Monroe County Jail in Sparta, Wis. on charges unrelated to the Fennimore incident.
Although police are still investigating the incident, French said, they do not believe Verhagen poses a threat to the students of the Fennimore Community School District.
"Thank you for all the tips that were turned in regarding this subject," the Grant County Sheriff's Office Facebook page said Friday morning. "[The man] is in custody in another county on charges unrelated to this incident. The Fennimore Police Department will be going to interview him to find out why he was in the Fennimore High School this past Tuesday. Please direct further inquiries to the Fennimore Police Department. Thank you."
According to a release from the Fennimore Police Department, a man entered Fennimore High School after school hours on Tuesday. School surveillance cameras captured images of the man and his car.
Officials say the man didn't harm anyone and left without incident.
