Retired Shelby Police officer needs transplant

SHELBY, WI (WXOW) - Friends and family are raising money for a retired Shelby Police officer.

Frank Bakalars, or 'Buck' as he is so dearly called, was diagnosed with Leukemia in September.

He's gone through 4 bouts of chemotheraphy and is waiting to have a bone marrow transplant in about a month.

The fundraiser at Fox Hollow Banquet Hall Saturday included a silent auction, Loggers tickets, Packers paraphernalia and other great prizes.

And even though Frank couldn't be there, the event helped people stay close to him.

His daughter Wendy Muenzenberger says "nobody can really see him right now his immunity is so low so this is everybody's way of back to him and celebrating for him."

You can send donations to Associated Bank at 9515 Hwy. 16 Onalaska, WI 54650 or e-mail
