LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- Inspection fees for home construction could be on the rise. It's an issue the Judiciary and Administration Committee will take up at their meeting Tuesday night.
The ordinance would include changes in fees for plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning permits. Proposed fee increases would vary depending on the cost of the project.
During his campaign. Mayor Tim Kabat said revitalizing neighborhoods is a priority of his, and he says he wants to make sure fee increases wouldn't discourage residents from improving their homes.
"There's a committee looking at it and they're going to come back to the full council with a report to see if the city's in line with other peer cities and other communities around us or if we need to make some adjustments," Mayor Kabat said. "The last thing, of course, that we would want is for those fees to be a deterrent to someone wanting to make improvements to their property."
City planer Larry Kirch says at Tuesday's meeting it will be recommended that there is a 30 day referral because the study is not complete.
