Holmen HS honored by US News and World Report

HOLMEN, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Holmen High School has earned high praise from the news organization U.S. News and World Report.

In the news magazine's latest high school rankings, Holmen is pegged as the 14th best high school in Wisconsin. The Vikings rank 1,385 nationally.

Holmen principal Bob Baer said he thinks the praise is due, at least in part, to the performance of Holmen students on advanced placement tests.

In 2012, the school tallied that some 13% of students were enrolled in AP classes, and 81% of them scored a 3 on their end of the year AP exams.

The tests, which are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, are used as a benchmark so that higher education institutions can award high schoolers who score well college credit.

Holmen's 81% success rate is above the state average.
