1 person dead in Sheboygan fire

SHEBOYGAN (WKOW) – Authorities say one person is dead and another was treated for smoke inhalation at an apartment fire in Sheboygan Tuesday morning.

Fire officials say a man who lived on the lower level of a 16-unit apartment building died in the fire.  According to our affiliate, WISN-TV, Sheboygan Fire Chief Jeff Hermann says a room in the victim's apartment exploded in flames.

Hermann says firefighters had to use ladders to reach the residents because they couldn't get down the second-floor hallway.

Hermann says other apartments sustained smoke damage, but the fire was contained to the unit where the body was found.  One resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
