Central's fast start earning attention

La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  Thursday was supposed to be a big day for MVC baseball with Holmen and Central set to play a doubleheader.

But that, like all the other sports events locally, has been put on ice.

Instead, they'll play two next Tuesday.

But not even the weather gods can cool off Central.

The Red Raiders are off to a 7-0 start this season, which included a 12-2 win over Aquinas on Tuesday.

Central is averging just almost 9 runs per game and holding opponents to under three runs per game.

"I knew we had the potential. I knew we were young. We have a lot of guys stepping in and really filled in their roles and done a nice job. I think we need to take the approach as 'one game at a time.' We really do just take that next opponent, make sure our pitchers give us a good performance and then offensively try to get runs early," said head coach Nick Kalina.

Central has moved up to 5th in the latest WBCA division one state poll.
