LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) The first Thursday in May marks the National Day of Prayer. It's designed to gather people of faith to pray for the nation and its leaders.
In La Crosse, the event is called the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. It has a 17 year tradition. Those who attend localize the purpose of the day, praying for local leaders and the community.
Pastor Mark Clements of the Living Word Christian Church meets with a committee each month all year to plan the event. La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat says it provides an opportunity to re-energize and focus on others.
