UPDATE: Mom and children out of hospital after car collides with Amish buggy

TOWNSHIP OF PIGEON, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- A car collided with a buggy carrying nine Amish occupants Friday night in Trempealeau County -- sending them to the hospital with "life threatening injuries" according to a release issued Saturday by police.

According to the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department, Brady A. Engen was driving his vehicle north-bound on Highway 53/121 Friday when he collided with the buggy.

The crash occurred at 10:18 p.m.

The sheriff's department said inattentive driving was a factor in the crash and that Engen failed to yield to the slow-moving, Amish vehicle.

Engen did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

The case will now be forwarded to the Trempealeau County District Attorney's office for review.

Update: May 5th: The mother injured in the crash, 38-year old Lydia Wengerd, of Osseo, and her seven children have all been released from the hospital. Her husband, 37-year old David Wengerd remains hospitalized for treatment of lower leg injuries which doctors say will require additional surgery.
