LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – This week the mayor and city officials recognized La Crosse as a Bird City Wisconsin.
Living up to the designation, the Myrick Hixon EcoPark hosted an International Migratory Bird Day celebration Saturday.
The celebration was open to bird and nature enthusiasts of all ages, offering bird-watching tours, bird banding, crafts and a raptor show.
The event was to to educate the public about birds.
"Basically birds are part of the ecosystem, part of the habitat, part of the food chain, and it's just important people know where they fit in," said Stephanie Hanna, education coordinator of the Myrick Hixon EcoPark.
This was the fourth International Migratory Bird Day celebration at the EcoPark.
