La Crosse Police Chief hails April drug arrests

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Four drug busts occurred within La Crosse city limits in the month of April.

In one of the raids, FBI officials arrested a man accused as a major player in the Chicago drug scene but the rest involved individuals accused of local, drug-related crimes.

Police Chief Ron Tischer said the arrests are part of a plan to throw the book at La Crosse's drug users and dealers.

"We know where they are, we know where they're dealing and we're going to hunt them down," Tischer said.

"You're going to see a lot more, big drug arrests before this is over," the Chief said.
Tischer added he credits the public in helping his officers track down and crack down on drug crimes.

"The public calls a lot and gives us tips, which are great tips," Tischer said. "I wish we had the time and resources to respond to every tip we get."

"Somebody might call up and say, 'the kids next door are smoking marijuana,' but then someone else might call and say, 'there's a heroin dealer on my block.' We obviously have to prioritize what we focus on," Tischer said. "But what I tell everybody is that, sooner or later, we will get to your tip."
