LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—Each year the Wisconsin Society of Medical Assistants honors one Certified Medical Assistant with an award for their work.
Tandra Bauman, a La Crosse woman with eight years experience, was named Medical Assistant of the Year.
She said it means a lot to her because she was nominated by her peers.
CMA's, like Bauman, get patients ready to be seen by a doctor.
"So you're setting the tone for their whole appointment and that makes you feel good," Bauman said. "You want them to be receptive."
She uses humor to help her patients feel comfortable; that interaction is one reason she loves her job.
"Seeing them smile," Bauman said. "Having them call in and ask for you. I've had a lot of good experiences through out the years with my patients. And when they leave or pass away it's always a sad thing."
She's been in her current role at Mayo's Nephrology department for six months. Already, her supervisor, Cheryl Pearse said Bauman has helped streamline some things.
"Helped with team work in the department and the team is functioning really well with her as an addition," Pearse said.
But what makes her stand out is her attitude.
"Good upbeat personality, can flow with ups and downs of a busy clinic day and really be that fresh face each and every day," Pearse said.
Bauman said she works hard to always keep a smile on her face so every patient has a good experience at the doctor's office.
The Medical Assistant of the Year Award is a way to show appreciation for members who have given so much of their time, talent, and dedication to make our organization what it is today. The Medical Assistant of the Year Award helps us to share their accomplishments, allowing the Wisconsin Society of Medical Assistants an opportunity to recognize those individuals, and to show our gratitude.
