Stevens Point, WISCONSIN (WXOW) The first state girls basketball tournament in Green Bay was a resounding success in the eyes of many.
So it comes as no surprise that the WIAA Board of Control voted Friday to authorize it's executive staff to begin negotiations with the Resch Center on a long term agreement.
The Resch Center was already locked in to host the event again next year.
No word yet on how long the WIAA wants to extend the deal, although the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting they want a commitment through 2020.
Previously, the state girls tournament was held in Madison every year since it's inception in 1976.
