La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) The Loggers defense of their Northwoods League title is underway.
The season opener taking place in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Just five players return from last year's title team.
They say you don't want to be the guy who replaces a legend.
But new Loggers manager Jason Nell is perfectly comfortable taking over for the ultra-successful Andy McKay.
Nell would love to duplicate McKay's winning ways.
But how he goes about doing it will be a bit different.
"I realize I'm not Andy. What they did last year is awesome and that's great. It's great for the organization. It's great for Ben (Kapanke), Dan (Kapanke) and Chris (Goodell). But I'm not Andy and I'm not going to try and be Andy. I understand what they did and that's fantastic. But that's not going to help me tomorrow, or opening day or the next week," Nell said before the season opener.
"He seems real light, real energetic. He's a lot like my high school coach. It's going to be a lot of fun. I know he's going to be excited. It'll be fun to get to know the coaching staff a little better," said Loggers catcher/outfielder Troy Traxler.
The Logger will hold their home opener Sunday against Wisconsin Rapids.
