Loggers cruise 10-3 in home opener

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- The boys are back in town.

La Crosse welcomed the defending Northwoods League Champion Loggers to the Lumberyard at Copeland Park on Sunday for the 2013 home opener. After starting 2-2 on the road, La Crosse aimed to build momentum at home.

Wisconsin Rapids came to town for the opening day festivities. The rafters started 2-1 on the year entering the two game set in La Crosse.

The Loggers took an early lead when Nick Day sent a base hit down the first base line scoring both baserunners. La Crosse would lead 3-0 after the first. Day went 1-4 on the day with 4 RBI.

Dexter Price provided more run support in the second inning. Price hit a solo home run to right, his first of the year, making it a 4-0 La Crosse lead.

More heavy lumber came in the eighth courtesy of La Crosse's own Bobby Juan. The Loggers right fielder demolished a solo homer to right to make it a 7-0 lead. It was Juan's first home run of the season.

Rapids tried to rally, plating three runs in the ninth inning. La Crosse managed to keep the damage to a minimum and came away from the home opener with a 10-3 win. The Loggers improve to 3-2 on the year.

La Crosse takes on Wisconsin Rapids again Monday night at Copeland Park. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
