$2M bail for man accused in Mauston homicide

MAUSTON (WXOW) - A 29-year-old man was jailed on $2 million bond Monday after being charged in the shooting death of a woman behind a Mauston bar.

Cody Treul of Mauston was charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, according to online Juneau County Circuit Court records.

According to a joint press release from the Juneau County Sheriff's Department and the Mauston Police Department, two women were shot behind P.J.s Bar and Grill in Mauston just after midnight on Friday. Investigators said one woman was killed and the other was injured. No other details were immediately released.

A detective for the sheriff's department did not immediately return a telephone message Monday.

Treul is to make his initial court appearance June 19.


MAUSTON (WKOW) -- A Mauston woman is still in critical condition after being shot outside a bar early Friday morning.

Ebony Lasher is at UW Hospital in Madison. Officials there say as of Monday morning, she is listed in critical condition.

Police in Mauston are investigating the shooting behind P.J.s Bar and Grill. They arrested Cody J. Treul, 29, on tentative charges of first degree intentional homicide and attempted first degree intentional homicide. Police say another victim, Gail Howland, was killed.

Major Paul Rickert says Treul is a full-time member of the Air National Guard assigned to Volk Field, with a rank of Air Force Master Sergeant.

Treul is expected to make an initial appearance in court Monday afternoon.
