Tellor’s huge night ignites Woodchucks over Mallards 6-5

Matt Tellor would continue his hot start for the Woodchucks as he would hit two home runs, one from each side of the plate, to help lead the Wisconsin Woodchucks over the Madison Mallards 6-5.

Woodchucks' center fielder Tyler Stieb would also continue his hot start as he would single into center field to start things in the bottom of the first inning. Stieb would steal second base with Garrett Rucker up to bat. When Tellor came up to bat Stieb would take matters into his own hands trying to steal third base when Mallards' catcher Mike Fitzgerald's wild throw would end up in left field allowing Stieb to score on the play to take a 1-0 lead.

The Mallards would even things up in the top half of the second inning as Mike Fitzgerald would reach base on a throwing error by Woodchucks' third baseman Jimmy Correnti. Correnti's throw would allow Fitzgerald to advance to second base on the play. Mallards' second baseman Ryan McShane would drive in Fitzgerald to even the score up at one.

The Mallards would use three consecutive hits with two outs to build a 3-1 lead in the top half of the 3rd inning. Jeff Zahn would start the rally for the Mallards as he would dump a hit into left field. Zahn would come all the way around to score from first after a double into the right center field gap by Tate Matheny, son of St. Louis Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny. Matheny would come into score in the next at-bat when Fitzgerald hit a single into right field.

The Woodchucks would answer in a big way in the bottom half of the third inning. Stieb would again reach base this time hitting a double into the right-center field gap. After Rucker was hit by a pitch, Tellor would hit a 3-run homerun over the left field wall which would be his second of the year giving the Woodchucks a 4-3 advantage.

The Mallards would have an answer of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Ryan McShane would reach base after hitting a single into center field. McShane would advance into scoring position after stealing second base and Eric Cheray would bring McShane home after a single down the left field line to tie the game up at four.

The Mallards would break up the tie when Matheny would hit a ground ball up the middle to score Eric Cheray giving the Mallards a 5-4 lead.

Tellor, considered to be the hottest player in the Northwoods League, hit his second home run of the night. Tellor would drive in Garrett Rucker in his no-doubt home run again over the left field wall. This time the home run would come when Tellor was batting from the right side of the plate.
