Westby ready for State challenge

WESTBY, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Just one more day to prepare.

The Westby baseball team loaded up the buses around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and set off for the state tournament at Fox Cities Stadium where they'll try to load up the bases against 4th ranked Deerfield.

The Norsemen are spending plenty of time working on fine-tuning their own game leading up to the tournament, but they've also done their homework. Westby players and coaches said they expect Deerfield to be an aggressive opponent.

"They're traditionally a solid baseball school," said head coach John Hamilton. "They're well-coached. They're going to come out and be aggressive. They've had success year-in and year-out. We know they've got a top-level pitcher."

Senior right fielder Nick Schroeder added, "We've heard the scouting report--mid-eighties, good breaking ball. It's probably what you're going to se at the state tournament. We're ready to go. We've got a lot of good area pitchers here. We've all seen the news, we all watch them play. It's just playing baseball."

Once again, Westby takes on Deerfield in a division three state semifinal at Fox Cities Stadium on Wednesday afternoon at around 3:00 p.m.
