RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- The Badgers got a little closer to naming their starting quarterback for the upcoming season with yesterday's news of Danny O'Brien's departure.
O'Brien will reportedly transfer after speculation slated him to be 5th on the depth chart when the Wisconsin opens camp in August.
There is still plenty of competition for the starting job, however. At a golf outing yesterday in the River Falls area, in between working on his short game, Badgers head coach Gary Andersen was asked about the long road ahead choosing a starter.
Andersen answered, "Bart [Houston]'s still with us--the young freshman. He's in the developmental part of this program. The other three young men are coming; they're going to fight for this job. Joel [Stave]'s done a nice job this spring. Curt [Phillips] did a nice job this spring. Tanner [McEvoy]'s with us now. He just got on campus and is ready to go. I feel good about the competition. You want to create competition at the quarterback spot just like the rest of the positions. We'll take our time and when we feel its right, we'll make the decision."
