Westby downs Deerfield 2-1 in D-3 Semi


GRAND CHUTE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Westby's Tyler Ihrcke held Deerfield hitless in the final two innings as the Norsemen win their Division 3 semi-final game Wednesday afternoon 2-1 to advance to the state title game. 

Deerfield got on the scoring started in the fourth when Blake Ehrke hit a solid single to center that scored Zach Gross on third.  Despite having four hits, Deerfield could only plate the one run.

In Westby's half of the 4th, Nick Neely walked to start the inning off.  Pinch runner Jared Anderson took over for Neely and scored on a single to center from Nick Schroeder to tie the game.

The final run came in Westby's fifth inning when Alex Robson, who singled to begin the inning, scored on Nick Neely's fly ball RBI to center field.

In the sixth and seventh innings, Westby's Ihrcke didn't allow a baserunner or give up a hit.

The Norsemen will take on Oconto, who beat Osseo-Fairchild 4-3 in the first game Wednesday afternoon in Grand Chute at Fox Cities Stadium.

The game is set for noon Thursday.
