Authorities seize mislabeled drugs from market

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Authorities say they have seized hundreds of pounds of unmarked or mislabeled drugs from more than 15 vendors at a Hmong market in St. Paul.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office says Thursday that police, deputies and federal agents searched the Hmongtown Marketplace on Tuesday, and found sodium cyanide, steroids, opiates and other drugs.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Randy Gustafson says none of the vendors are licensed pharmacists. There have been no arrests, but authorities are still investigating.

The voicemail box at the Hmongtown Marketplace was full and a message seeking comment could not be left. Authorities say many of the vendors had been told in the past to stop selling these drugs.

Authorities say the issue is 1 of public safety, because consumers might not know what they are buying.
