EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- The Loggers certainly seem motivated to defend their Northwoods League title.
Following Friday night's 11th inning 4-2 win over Eau Claire, La Crosse improved to 6-1 over their last seven games. They met the Express for game two of a three-game set on Saturday night at Carson Park.
The home team jumped out in front first. Sam Haggerty singled into left field allowing Matt Menard to slide in safely at home. Later in the inning, Tim Zier knocked a base hit to right scoring two runs on the play. Eau Claire led 4-0 after two.
La Crosse mounted a rally in the third. Michael Katz picked up an RBI with a grounder through the infield hole to make it a 4-1 game. Johnny Bekakis then scored on a wild pitch to bring the Loggers back within two runs.
That would be the difference. Eau Claire went on to win 6-4, dropping La Crosse to 11-7 on the season. Game three of the series is Sunday at 5:05 p.m. in Eau Claire.
