Police: Woman shot inside Potawatomi Bingo Casino

MILWAUKEE (WXOW) -- A 27-year-old man has been arrested after shooting a woman in the leg during a fight at Potawatomi Bingo Casino early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened on the casino floor around 1:30 a.m., creating a pretty chaotic scene.

Police say some witnesses were hurt in a stampede of people trying to get out.

"I just heard people running and shouting 'somebody is shooting. Somebody is shooting.' And it was like what what. Then everybody got off of the machines and were running," says Patricia Wesley.
The 23-year-old victim was taken to a hospital. She's expected to recover.
A Potawatomi spokesperson said in a statement that the casino closed temporarily after the shooting, but reopened at 9 a.m. The spokesperson said this is the first shooting to happen inside the casino, but in 2011 shots were fired outside the building.
Employees say the casino does not have metal detectors, but there are security guards on duty.

Police say a 23-year-old woman was shot at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee.

They say it happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say a 27-year-old man from Wauwatosa shot the Milwaukee woman in the leg. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Milwaukee police arrested the man at the casino. They told a WISN reporter he will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days for possible charges.
