Colleagues Remember Dr. Richard Renwick

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Workers at Gundersen Health System are fondly remembering a co-worker who died Saturday in a plane crash.

Dr. Richard Renwick and his brother, Bruce, were killed when their plane crashed in Northern Wisconsin Saturday evening.

Renwick, who a co-worker Tuesday described as "a very experienced pilot," was flying the plane when it crashed.

Renwick worked in Gundersen's Department of OB/GYN.

Department head Dr. Mary Kuffel said Renwick was a brilliant professional.

"As he proceeded during his career he was doing more of the gynecologic oncology work -- working with women that have gynecologic cancers," Kuffel said.

"He took that on as an interest and built a wonderful program here," she said. "It allowed a lot of patients that otherwise would've had to travel elsewhere to receive treatment in La Crosse."

Kuffel added she'll always remember Renwick's positivity and infectious smile.

She said Renwick always maintained a positive attitude -- even when treating patients that were severely ill.

"He had a wonderful habit of spending a lot of time with his patients," she said.

"We're all still in a state of disbelief and shock that Rick's not going to come around the corner," Kuffel said.
