POSTVILLE, Iowa (WXOW) - One man is in jail and another in a La Crosse hospital after an alleged stabbing Tuesday evening in Postville.
It happened at approximately 7:00 p.m. in Postville's Agri Star meat processing plant. Postville Police say 23-year-old John Herrera, of Postville, is the suspect in the stabbing of 29-year-old Abdikani Hassan, 29, of West Liberty.
Following an investigation at the scene, Postville police officers identified and arrested Herrera. They transported him to the Fayette County jail, where prosecutors charged him with willful injury.
Postville medical professionals took Hassan to the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He was later airlifted to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse for what police call precautionary reasons even though the wound was described as non-life threatening. Police say Hassan was stabbed under his left shoulder blade.
Assisting the Postville police department were Monona's and Calmar's police departments, plus the Allamakee, Clayton and Fayette county sheriffs' offices, in addition to the Iowa State Patrol.
