EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (WQOW) - Xcel Energy customers beware. Scammers are reportedly posing as Xcel employees. In some cases they tell customers they are about to lose service unless they buy a pre-paid cash card. Xcel says the scammers sometimes offer to come to their home to pick up payment, and in some cases, they've been able to make caller ID indicate the call is actually from Xcel.
The company says other scams include telling customers they have a refund coming, then requesting bank information to complete the refund. Customers are being asked to report anything suspicious by calling Xcel at 1-800-895-4999.
