UPDATE: Helicopter pilot from St. Charles dies in crash

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (KTTC) -- Authorities say the pilot who died after his helicopter crashed in Maplewood is from St. Charles.

Maplewood Acting Police Chief Dave Kvam says pilot Michael Kramer, 44, was the only one on board. The helicopter spraying for insects crashed in the backyard of a home, igniting the chopper and a detached garage Wednesday morning.

Police say no one was in the home or garage at the time.

The NTSB is investigating what happened.

The owner of Scott's Helicopters of Le Sueur said Kramer is married and has two children and is from a large family in St. Charles with 12 siblings.

Kramer was an experienced pilot and worked for the company four or five years ago before piloting medical helicopters. He just came back to Scott's Helicopters this spring.
