Pepin County Approves "Frac Free Zone"

Posted:

PEPIN COUNTY, Wisconsin (WQOW) - A unique sand mining proposal gets the thumbs up in Pepin County. The board voted this week to go "frac-free" prohibiting frac sand operations along Highway 35.

The highway, also known as The Great River Road, runs next to the Mississippi River. The ban was approved on a 9-to-3 vote, and it covers a 15-mile stretch of the highway that runs through the county.

The move is designed to protect the scenic area that draws many tourists.
