Scouts watch floodwaters take tents away

Some Boy Scouts were camping near Whalen when they got quite a scare.

"(They) were camping on County Road 23 near Whalan and had to evacuate at 2 a.m. and watched their tents and things be washed away," reports the grandmother of two of the campers.

Six boys and two adult leaders from a Scout troop in Plainview were in their tents when the water started rising.

"One of the leaders said 'it's time to go!' so we went to the vehicles," said Connor Adams. "That's when the tents went."

Connor, 11, and his twin brother Isaac--though tentless--will go home to Plainview safe and sound.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's office says DNR officers also checked on campers near Diamond Creek as the heaviest of the rain was falling, but the two people there were fine and were clearing out and going home.
