Update: Climber rescued from Grandad Bluff Fined


LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - UPDATE: Two people are ticketed following a rescue on Grandad Bluff.

A La Crosse firefighter had to rappel down the top of the bluff, Wednesday afternoon, to rescue 22-year-old Jessica Hale after she got stuck on a ledge.

Hale told officials she was trying to climb the bluff.

La Crosse Police say Hale and her friend Coey Oliver were both cited for trespassing on unauthorized areas of the bluff.  They will have to pay a $290 fine.


LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -  A woman trying to climb up Grandad Bluff Wednesday afternoon needs rescuing when she gets stuck on a ledge.

A La Crosse firefighter rappelled down from the top of the bluff to rescue the woman and bring her to safety.  She was not injured.

She was trapped below the walkway on the south end of the overlook at the top of the bluff.

A fire department spokesman said that the woman was hiking on the bluff with friends when she decided to climb up the bluff.
