LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW) - The month of June brought 5.82 inches of rainfall to the La Crosse area.
That's almost a inch and a half more than average, according to the National Weather Service.
County officials say flooding caused almost $6 million worth of damage in Houston and Fillmore counties, leaving many homeowners with flooded basements from ground water coming in.
Servpro of La Crosse County is a fire and water restoration company.
Vince Norris, co-owner of Servpro of La Crosse County says the first thing to do if you have flooding is to try and get the water stopped and protect anything you want to keep.
Norris says the quicker he can get on site the quicker he can minimize the loss and the damage to the structure.
He says time is of the essence if your home has water damage.
"If its been longer than 72 hours some things can start to grow, mold, some microbial things. You'll start to notice some odors."
Norris says it's also important to landscape year-round so water in your drains and gutters can run away from your home instead of building up around it.
