WIS. RAPIDS, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- The race for the first half crown gets even hotter.
La Crosse entered Sunday tied with Madison. Both teams sat half a game back of Lakeshore for the Northwoods League South division lead. All three went 6-4 over their last 10 games.
The only problem is, the Loggers found themselves in a struggle with Wisconsin Rapids. The Rafters have gone 7-3 over that stretch.
Rapids led the game 5-0 in the 2nd and added to it. Erik Payne sent a base hit to the gap in left center. Two Rafters runs scored giving Rapids a 7-0 lead after 2 innings.
With the bases-loaded for La Crosse in the 3rd, Michael Katz drew the walk bringing in Austin Rei to put the Loggers on the board. They, however, still trailed by six.
La Crosse had baserunners again in the fifth. Dexter Price tried to make something happen, but Taylor Stell robbed him of a few RBIs with a diving catch.
The Loggers got a few runs back later, but it would not be enough. They fall to 19-13 on the year with the 8-6 loss.
